•Based on 10% sodium hypochlorite strength.

•Pour liquid chlorine slowly in front of a return jet in the deep end with the circulation pump running.

•Never add liquid chlorine into the skimmer basket.

•Liquid chlorine does not contribute calcium or cyanuric acid (stabilizer).

Pool Chemical Safety Guidelines

Pool chemical calculations are estimates. Verify your pool volume and test results, follow the product label, add chemicals separately, circulate the water as directed, and retest before making further adjustments.

Never mix chlorine products with acids or other pool chemicals. Mixing can release lethal toxic chlorine gas.

Worked Liquid Chlorine Dosing Examples

10,000 Gallon Pool (+2 ppm FC)

Using standard 10% pool liquid chlorine:

21.4 fl oz (≈ 2.7 cups)

Ideal for daily sanitizing top-offs during warm weather.

18,000 Gallon Pool (+3 ppm FC)

Using 12.5% commercial pool liquid chlorine:

46.2 fl oz (≈ 5.8 cups / 1.4 qt)

Standard post-weekend or post-party booster dose.

25,000 Gallon Pool (+10 ppm Shock)

Using standard 10% pool liquid chlorine:

268 fl oz (≈ 2.1 gallons / 7.9 L)

Shock treatment for opening or clearing mild algae blooms.

Frequently Asked Questions: Liquid Chlorine

Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) contains zero cyanuric acid (CYA) and zero calcium. When you use chlorine tablets (trichlor), CYA accumulates with every tab dissolved. Eventually CYA rises above 80–100 ppm, resulting in "chlorine lock" where algae thrives despite chlorine being present. Liquid chlorine sanitizes cleanly without leaving chemical byproducts behind.
